But for the best sounds use a padded beater. This drum sounds great when held. You can however use your fingers or hand to beat it.

I cut the bottom of a large gourd off and then clean it out and sand. Base is mahogany wood and is x 2 thick with a leather covered oak dowel leather covered sumac wood beater included I then draw on any designs and wood burn them in, and in this case I colored all the wood burned designs with a special enamel paint.

A very unique gourd drum using my special pegged method of attaching a rawhide drum head to the gourd. Because the other end bottom is open and acts as a sound magnifier.

Such is the case with any rawhide drum head. I am of native American heritage Apache I do not have a crib card or a tribal registration number so any art I create is sold strictly as art and not native made.

I then insert a steam bent wood frame around the inside cut out area to reinforce it. This gourd drum is best played by holding it in your hand by the narrow neck and using a padded beater to strike it. This gourd drum head is 9 inches across and the drum stands 18 inches tall.

A note to buyers sometimes the drum head will absorb moisture from the air and become a little loose thus not sounding as good.
