Again as they just started remaking them. True or not, with the possible exception of new recording custom haven't heard them but gads involved so how bad could they be. There is no current Yamaha drum that sounds better than this does. It is the only one that has ever remotely sounded like those recordings you hear where floor tom sounds some sort of 15 foot Japanese TKO drum. This is really easy: the best sounding floor tom I have personally ever owned.

And no it doesn't sound quite that deep, but really, sounds deeper brassier than almost any bass drum I have had. The only exception, presumably, is recording custom line which was originally made with birch shells and are arguably very top of Yamaha. Anyway, the legend is that all of top end Yamaha drums were made by a company in japan called sake.
