Personally I think that either yeas system is a really good thing, particularly in combination with the ball joint hex rod mounting system that goes with it. Lots of companies have drum sustain enhancement schemes, but with the possible exception of Suleiman, nobody does it in a way that is as slick and simple and fits as well with the mounting system as Yamaha's. As far as condition goes, the finish doesn't seem to have any obvious defects, even though the vintage finish is supposedly Yamaha's thinnest, and the chrome a Yamaha hallmark is more or less perfect as far as I can tell. This is a birch custom absolute 12 x 9 tom with a yeas ii mount.

All I can really tell you for sure is the drum sounds fantastic. Smooth ringing with very little out of tune resonance, the thing is truly extreme when played loud, but is a very versatile multi hit zone instrument when played softly or even with brushes, rock rakes, and so on.

Yeas stands for Yamaha enhanced sustain system, and was an early thought leader in the idea of letting the drum resonate freely for a much better tone.
